Tech Byte: Don’t Pull the Pin Too Early on Serpentine Belt Tensioners

Pull a release pin too early, and you could find yourself back at the parts store.

In this Cloyes Tech Byte, we show you how to properly handle serpentine belt tensioners, especially those equipped with a pin release.

Whether you’re working on a GM 1.4L engine or any application using a spring tensioner, the rule is the same:

✅ Make sure the belt is properly routed

✅ Apply slight tension before pulling the pin

✅ Never force the belt on or off without the pin release

This simple step saves you from comebacks, wasted time, and damaged components.

Keep it precise. Keep it Cloyes. Keep Engines Turning.
